Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.' The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea-notably Jack. Jack's only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. Is it a good one? Sailing in at past the 2 hour mark, pirates drags along from scene to scene, with little in the way of excitement. Throwing in a bit of humor along the way, the plot details explain enough, but not doing much more than that. The CG gets a pat on the back. The look of Captain Salazar and his crew deliver some fresh air in the existing pirate atmosphere. As usual,tThe costumes and setting are nicely selected and done.

Johnny Depp does what he does best; embraces his character with amusing body movements and expressions. Javier Bardem puts forth a solid villain, while Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario seemingly just get by with their characters. Familiar faces populate Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, but the new faces aren't enough to blow this out of the water.
